From Emmo:
“Glue shoes for my own Alva who will, in the long run, be able to walk barefoot again.
GluShu is a rubber shoe with an aluminum core. It has "flaps" on the sides (also in the toe, but it is cut off here) that are glued to the hoof wall with a strong glue that is adapted to hooves.
At a transition from shoe to barefoot, the hoof will almost always crack around the old seam holes until new, whole wall has grown down. It involves daily checks to hold on to the hoof wall and scrap away any tabs that arise. It may be appropriate to protect the hooves with, for example, barefoot boots also in the pasture, depending on the status of the hooves when the shoes are taken off, and on how the pasture is designed (grass, gravel, mud, etc.).
I choose a couple of shoe periods with GluShu that are glued instead of sewn. This allows the old seam holes to grow down in peace without the hoof breaking on the way, so we have a little head start when the glue shoes will then come off. Alva has good hooves and good pastures so we usually only need barefoot boots when riding.
Glushu are great for transitioning to barefoot ”
