Owner Review: Mini Glushu for Laminitic Miniature Shetland Willow

“I am a former practising vet (and current human doctor!) and 10 year old Miniature Shetland mare Willow is my pony.

She unfortunately suffered from acute laminitis earlier this year, quite out of the blue and not being particularly overweight. Her insulin was >300 and she was in significant amounts of pain, managed with appropriate analgesia (NSAID and paracetamol) in addition to ACP, and I also commenced ertigluflozin for her which resulted in a marked improvement in her clinical presentation and significant reduction her insulin level over a short period of time – but, unfortunately, she became less bright than usual and her liver enzymes and triglycerides had increased so I had to reduce the dose of ertigluflozin and she quickly became bright again (and her blood results improved back to normal) and her laminitis clinically still continued to improve.

Myself and the vet I consulted regarding Willow were both very keen to consider plastic glue-on shoes to try to make Willow feel more comfortable and I managed to find the Mini Glushu online! After carefully measuring Willow’s feet, I ordered the 75mm Mini Glushu and they are a fantastic fit. She seems very happy and comfortable in them.

She is now on her second set and I am very happy to have discovered them for her. Pics below show Willow and her shoes.
